The prEUgovor coalition presents its latest Alarm – report on Serbia's progress in the implementation of policies in the areas covered by Cluster 1 (Fundamentals), with a focus on political criteria and chapters 23 (Judiciary & Fundamental Rights) and 24 (Justice, Freedom & Security) of the EU accession negotiations. The report covers the period from November 2023 to April 2024. The event will take place on Wednesday, 29 May, at 11 AM at Sava Center.
The conference will focus on elections, which marked the reporting period - from their announcement to the formation of the new Government. In the meantime - election campaign, protests, domestic and international reports on election irregularities, new negotiations on election conditions and changes to electoral rules. The formation of the legislative and executive power was again delayed until the last minute, which negatively affected the implementation of reform activities in other key areas. Finally, on 2 June, the Belgrade elections will be repeated and local elections will be held in 66 cities and municipalities in Serbia.
How do we assess the state of democracy, rule of law and human rights in Serbia and what have we learned from the reporting period? In what conditions do we welcome new elections? What can we expect from the new Government, the largest so far, in terms of necessary reforms and European integration?
These questions will be discussed by:
- Jelena Pejić Nikić, Belgrade Centre for Security Policy, editor of the Report
- Ivana Milosavljević, Center for Investigative Journalism Serbia
- Nemanja Nenadić, Transparency Serbia
Moderator: Nikola Burazer, European Western Balkans
The working language of the conference is Serbian. Simultaneous translation into English will be provided.
Please, register HERE by 27 May, close of business, for in-person or online (Zoom) attendance.
